Sticky Ice Painting

2–4 yrs

Description

This sensory experiment combines temperature exploration with art, using ice cubes to create colorful patterns. It introduces toddlers to melting and color mixing while encouraging fine motor control and creative expression.

Details

1. Fill an ice cube tray with water, add a drop of washable paint to each section, and freeze overnight.
2. Place a large sheet of paper on a tray to contain mess.
3. Give the child one or two colored ice cubes and let them rub them on the paper to create streaks.
4. Observe how the ice melts and mixes colors on the paper.
5. Encourage the child to describe how the ice feels (cold, slippery).
6. Discuss what happens as the ice melts and how the colors blend.
