Description
This sensory activity lets toddlers explore water beads, tiny non-toxic polymer spheres that expand in water, creating a squishy, colorful texture. It fosters curiosity, tactile exploration, and fine motor skills under supervision.
Details
1. Place a small handful of dry water beads (non-toxic, about 1 tablespoon) in a clear, shallow container.
2. Add a small amount of water (about 1 cup) to cover the beads and let them soak for 1–2 hours to expand (prepare in advance under adult supervision).
3. Show the child the expanded, squishy beads and let them touch and explore the slippery texture under close supervision.
4. Add a little more water and observe how the beads move or float in the container.
5. Encourage the child to scoop or transfer beads between containers using a large spoon to practice motor skills.
6. Discuss how the beads feel (slippery, squishy) and what happens when more water is added, emphasizing their growth.
