Description

This activity explores the properties of light and shadows by having children trace the outlines of shadows cast by objects. It encourages observation and experimentation with light sources, fostering an understanding of how light interacts with objects.

Details

1. In a dimly lit room or outdoors, place a small toy on a piece of paper.
2. Position a flashlight (or use sunlight) to cast a clear shadow of the toy onto the paper.
3. Help the child trace the shadow’s outline with a crayon or marker.
4. Move the flashlight or toy to change the shadow’s size or shape and trace again.
5. Discuss how moving the light or object affects the shadow.
6. Encourage the child to arrange multiple toys to create a shadow scene and trace it.
